Register for AAHP Continuing Education Courses (In Person and Virtual)

The American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP) will host three continuing education courses at the 66th Annual Meeting of the Health Physics Society. The sessions will be open to anyone and held in Phoenix on 24 July beginning at 8:00 am (MST) in the Phoenix Convention Center. AAHP will also be at Booth 610 at the HPS meeting—please drop by and see us!

Course 1: (In Person Only, 8 hours)

Radiation Risk Assessment

Stuart Walker, Fred Dolislager

Radiation Risk Assessment is a full-day advanced course that focuses on specific technical and regulatory issues that remedial project managers (RPMs) and on-scene coordinators (OSCs) address when managing Superfund sites that have a risk assessment conducted for radioactive contaminants.

Course 2: (In Person and Virtual, 4 hours)

Y-90 Boot Camp

Andy Miller, CHP

More and more cases of Y-90 therapy for liver tumors are being performed each year in the United States. These treatments involve a series of activities to select the proper dose for the treatment, receive the doses, assay them, deliver them correctly, and handle waste issues. This course will take students through a team-based process involving interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, nursing, and radiation safety.

Course 3: (Virtual Only, 8 hours)

Harmony in Concepts and Units for Internal Dose Calculations for Nuclear Medicine Applications or for Protection of Radiation Workers.

M. Stabin, PhD, CHP; RADAR, Inc.

Internal dose calculations for nuclear medicine applications or for protection of radiation workers are based on the same fundamental concepts and units. The various systems developed to provide a basis for the needed calculations (e.g., ICRP 30/60/103, MIRD, RADAR) use equations that appear to be different, but are in fact identical when carefully studied.
